FEMME Initiative uses visual art to explore memory, identity, lived experience, healing, and social issues.

Through painting and other creative projects, we turn personal and collective experiences into work that can be shared, exhibited, and used to open conversations.

Paintings

Our paintings explore themes such as resilience, loss, healing, growth, vulnerability, resilience and community.

Each work carries its own story and reflects experiences or ideas that may be difficult to express in words.

Some works are developed as part of a series, while others stand independently. This allows each artwork to be presented in the form that best reflects its story and meaning.

Exhibitions & Creative Projects

FEMME Initiative shares selected artworks through exhibitions, community activities, and collaborative projects that use art as a tool for reflection, dialogue, and advocacy.

Arts & Research

FEMME Initiative is also interested in exploring the role of creative expression in health and wellbeing through research. Our arts-based research will examine how activities such as painting and writing may contribute to reflection, emotional expression, coping, and wellbeing, while generating evidence to better understand their potential therapeutic value.

Creative Collaborations

We welcome opportunities to collaborate with artists, schools, community organisations, and partners interested in using art to explore important social and human experiences, including research.

series

1. Usu Dze Imoh Series

Naomi titled her first series collection as “Usu Dze Imoh,“ dedicating it as a tribute to her parents: H.R.H. Fon Kum Achou II and Queen Mother Mbong Duh Bibiana. The title comes from the motto frequently used by her father during the opening and closing of his public addresses to the people of Esu. More than a phrase, “Usu Dze Imoh” represents H.R.H. Fon Kum Achou II enduring voice, leadership, and legacy.

Title: Birth of a new king

Year: 2025/2026

Medium: Glass beads, rubber beads, rubber cowries, acrylic paint

Reflection or story: Birth of a New King captures the moment H.R.H. Fon Kum Achou II emerged into kingship, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Esu. The painting reflects transition, responsibility, tradition, and the weight of leadership carried by a newly crowned king.

Title: Mbeh (These paintings explore kingship, tradition, memory, and royal identity in Fungom sub-division)

Year: 2025/2026

Medium: Glass beads, rubber beads, acrylic paint

Reflection or story: Mbeh explores kingship, tradition, memory, and the responsibilities carried by a ruler within the Esu community. Through this series, the paintings reflect moments of transition, identity, leadership, and the enduring meaning of royalty across generations.

Title: Death

Year: 2024, 2025, 2026

Medium: Glass beads, acrylic paint, oil paint

Reflection or story: Death is a visual reflection on loss, grief, and memory. Through the story of HRH Fon Kum Achou II and Queen Mother Mbong Duh Bibiana, the series confronts the violence of an ending while preserving the lives, leadership, and love that came before it.
